Gifted Education

Our enrichment program meets the needs of students in Grades 2-6 who are identified as academically gifted. We allow children to compact their learning time in the homeroom classroom, freeing them to participate in another environment where they are further challenged and encouraged in their areas of strength. Each grade-level group involved in the gifted program receives two hours of educational time in the gifted classroom per week, focusing on on a year-long thematic unit from Archeology, Marketing, Brain Research, to Crime Scene Investigation.

Students also extend beyond and delve deeper than the regular classroom level of critical thinking through concepts building, problem solving activities, research techniques, and creativity training. By singling out specific thinking skills and processes, students become aware of each skill in order to utilize them most effectively. They also have the opportunity to learn more about themselves as a learner. Horizons encourages endless ideas and open thinking—a hallmark of advanced learning programs—while honoring the truth found in God's Word that we are all gifted by the same Spirit for a variety of purposes.

        There are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord;

and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.
