Announcing our Next Head of School!

The Board of Central Christian School is confident in the Lord’s leading. We have prayed and sought the grace and wisdom of God to lead us to the candidate of His choosing for our next Head of School.  After a lengthy and comprehensive search, we are delighted to share our conviction that Mrs. Christan Perona is His choice, and are even more pleased that Christan has agreed to accept our offer to serve, effective July 1, 2020.

As most in our community know, Christan is Director of Admissions and Communications here at Central and first became the Director of Admissions in 2007. For many of us, she was our initial point of contact when we visited the School and her passion and clarity in representing the School were instrumental in our decision to enroll our own children.

Christan’s commitment to Central is unwavering. Over the 13 years that she has been a part of this community and staff, she has shown her love for our students, parents, and faculty and staff, in myriad ways. Her authentic and winsome demeanor reflects the character of Jesus and will be instrumental in cultivating the relationships, values, and practices which are core to our School’s culture. We are excited about her vision for the future of our School and her ability to lead our community with wisdom and humility.

Christan brings over 20 years of experience in Christian education and ministry to her new role as Head of School. Beyond Central, she has served within Christian institutions at the preschool, secondary, and university levels in varying staff and volunteer roles. She has also worked for non-profit organizations within the industries of adoption and supporting under-resourced populations. Christan currently is a consultant with Relate2Color, a Christian firm promoting understanding, sensitivity, and awareness between people from different racial backgrounds, and with her husband, serves as a host parent for international students. She has been married to J.D. for 24 years, and they have two children who both graduated from Central Christian School, Clayton ‘14 and Kharis ‘16.

Upon her recent hire, Christan shared, “I am honored to accept the position of Head of School at Central Christian School and lead the community I so deeply love. Words can not describe the depth of impact Central has had on my family and me. This school has refined me into a lifelong learner who is hungry to respond to knowledge in relevant, restorative ways. Central has taught me to live in community as we love genuinely and humbly, recognizing how much we need each other. I have witnessed God’s radical and redeeming work in and through our school, and I praise Him for His faithfulness to Central year after year. I look forward to working in a new, expanded way with the school board, our principal and administrative team, and our teachers and staff as we strive to develop children as learners and thinkers, Christ-followers and disciples, and change-agents and leaders. It is with great joy I anticipate being in deeper relationships with parents, students, and stakeholders, and I’m excited to partner with Central Presbyterian Church as we examine renewed and growing ways we can impact Saint Louis together. We have much to look forward to as we pursue Jesus and edify Him through Central Christian School.”

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and your support during the search, and a special thanks to the Parent/Teacher Advisory Committee who humbly and diligently served as representatives of our diverse community.

As we look to the future of our school, we also give thanks for the servant leadership of our Interim Head of School, Noah Brink, over the past two years. The Lord brought Noah to us at just the right time, and he has been a great gift to our community. Noah, in partnership with Paya Sample, has quietly worked to bring stability and consistency to many of the systems and processes which underpin the healthy functioning of our school. He has led with grace and humility, and he has paved the way for Christan to take the reins. He is excited to work with Christan over the next several months to transition leadership to her, and he is happy to continue to assist as needed. I hope you will take a moment to thank Noah for all that he has done.

When COVID-19 has passed and we are allowed to assemble again, we will look forward to planning an event to celebrate both Noah’s leadership and Christan’s promotion. I hope you will join us in congratulating our new Head of School, Christan Perona, and praying for her as she leads Central Christian School into a new era.
