Our Story

Central Christian School Today

Central Christian School continues to operate as a ministry of Central Presbyterian Church and benefits from its governance and financial support. In addition, our school aligns our teaching to the Church's core values and Essentials of the Faith.

In our 62nd year, God has strengthened and broadened Central’s impact as we currently educate 217 students from 45 different zip codes and 75 churches. A National Blue Ribbon School, Central is identified as an academic competitor and has demonstrated a commitment to providing research-validated best practices within – not in spite of – a nurturing, gospel-centered community.

We find ourselves at the intersection of faith, academics, and diversity. Unapologetically Christian and academically challenging, we welcome and educate a richly diverse group of students. Our diversity is evidenced in various racial backgrounds, socio-economic groups, and the St. Louis neighborhoods our families call home. We're committed to meeting the academic needs of a broad range of learners, so our Learning Center offers both a gifted enrichment program and academic support.

We hold our accreditation through AdvancED and are also members of the Council on Educational Standards and Accountability (CESA), Educational Records Bureau (ERB), Independent Schools of St. Louis (ISSL), and the Christian School Association of St. Louis (CSASL).

While we have been thoughtful and diligent in our efforts to plant seeds of meaningful improvement in our school, we humbly recognize that God has sustained us and equipped us to thrive. We believe the Lord has raised up this place to educate a uniquely diverse group of students equitably, with purposeful excellence, to prepare them to engage a changing world for Jesus Christ.

Our Beginnings

Central Christian School began as an early childhood program in 1957. After seeing the academic value in the education their children were receiving, parents asked the school to expand its offerings. The current program for child age 3 through 6th Grade was established in the 1960's, and our original school facility was expanded a decade later to accommodate a growing student body. In 2009 the Summit was added, an additional building next to our main building housing our 5th and 6th Grade program.

Our Future

A mission-focused institution, Central Christian School uses research-validated best practices within a nurturing, gospel-driven community. The school board, Head of School, and entire Central community uses guiding principles to ensure mission alignment in the coming years. Through the framework provided by our vision, Portrait of a Graduate, Curricular Touchstones, and strategic plan, we are committed to purposeful decision-making as we move into the future, set goals, and determine where to place our focus and resources.
