Enrichment & Support

The Learning Center

At Central, we believe each child is an image-bearer of God and is "fearfully and wonderfully made." (Psalm 139:14) The Learning Center (TLC) partners with families and teachers to help students grow academically and emotionally through the right level of support at the right time. TLC provides a structured, tiered support system designed to meet the academic, executive functioning, and social-emotional needs of students. This model also includes specific support for gifted students through the Advanced Learning Plan (ALP). Faculty members are responsible for implementing accommodations, interventions, and enrichment opportunities at each tier to ensure student growth.

Student Growth Process

The Student Growth Process begins in the classroom, where teachers provide strong instruction and support for every student. If a child needs more help or extra challenge, the process allows us to add additional layers of support through The Learning Center. Throughout this journey, teachers, specialists, and parents partner closely to track progress, set goals, and make sure each child is growing in the unique way God has created them.

Step 1 | Teachers meet monthly with our Director of Student Growth to review how students are doing and determine if anyone needs extra help. The team identifies classroom interventions, and teachers track how individual students respond over several weeks. If more support is needed, next steps are collaboratively determined.

Step 2 | If help is needed beyond classroom interventions, students may receive Supplemental Support through The Learning Center, including small-group or one-on-one sessions with a Learning Specialist for eight weeks. The Specialist creates a plan, provides targeted instruction, and monitors progress closely. Parents are regularly updated.

Step 3 | At the end of eight weeks, the team review the child's progress and works with parents to decide on the best next steps. Possible outcomes include:
  • Returning to classroom with or without a 22:6 Plan
  • Requesting a full educational evaluation to better support the student and help the Learning Specialist write a learning plan.
  • Continuing Supplemental Support with an Individualized Support Plan (ISP)
  • Moving into Specialized Support for more intensive intervention, which may include programs like Orton-Gillingham reading support.

Levels of Support

Foundational Support
This level takes place in the classroom and includes strong teaching, enrichment for advanced learners, social-emotional lessons, and accommodations for students with 22:6 Plans (similar to a 504 Plan). If a student begins to struggle, the Student Growth process begins as teachers try targeted strategies, monitor progress, and partners with parents to determine next steps. This support is guided by our Director of Student Growth, Director of Academics, school counselor, and learning specialists.

Supplemental Support
This second level is designed for students who need more targeted help that what is offered in the regular classroom. This may include academic support, coaching in executive functioning, social-emotional skill-guilding, or additional enrichment for gifted students. Support is provided through a 22:6 Plan (504) or an Individualized Support Plan (ISP) and may involve small group instruction, one-on-one support, or pull-out sessions. Progress is carefully tracked to ensure each child is growing, and support is overseen by our Supplemental Learning Specialist, Horizons Learning Specialist, and classroom teachers working together.

Specialized Support
This level caters to students with significant academic needs or gifted learners seeking advanced enrichment. This includes daily pull-out instruction in reading or math, Orton-Gillingham interventions for dyslexia, or enrichment projects for gifted students. Support is based on an Individualized Support Plan (ISP) or Advanced Learning Plan (ALP) with specific goals and regular progress monitoring. Instruction occurs through one-on-one sessions, small groups, or extended classes, overseen by the Specialized Learning Specialist, Horizons Learning Specialist, and classroom teachers, in collaboration with families.
